Mrs George Pain (Martinborough) wa.s in to\yi for a. few days last weeU. Mr and Mrs Bennie leave shortly for a visit to Rotorua and Auckland, they will return about Christmas time. Mrs Buddo has arrived from the south, and is staying at Balmoral. She leaves on Saturday for Hawke s Bay, returning later to spend a few weeks In Wellington. Mr and Mrs Veen, who recently arrived from Capetown, are staying at the Hotel Bristol. Mr and Mi’s Millar, of Blenheim, who intend leaving shortly for England, are staying at the Hotel Bristol. Miss Peebles (Dunedin) is visiting Mrs O’Shea, Caroline street. Mr and Mrs Macgregor, of Hawke’s Bay, who have come to reside in Wellington, are staying just now at the Hotel Bristol. Other guests there include Mr and Mrs Williams, of Auckland, Mr and Mrs Brougham (Blenheim). Mrs and Miss Lorrimer (Christchurch), Miss Bezar (Palmerston), and Miss Lorimer, of Napier. On Thursday, November 6th, the girls’ branch of the Victoria League will celebrate the “ breaking up” of their winter evenings. For this occasion the dramatic circle has been actively preparing, with Miss Hardingo Maltby’s most valuable assistance, in coaching and stage managing. Two plays will be produced, or, rather, one bright little modern play and one scene from the “ School for Scandal.” In the first the characters will he represented by Misses Lydia Field, N. Edmondson, D. Edmondson Howard, Stella Putnam, and Lois Thayne, and in the scene the following will appear: Miss Ruth Wallace (Lady Sneerwell), Miss Tabuteau (Mrs Candour), Miss Myra Shirtcliffe (Lady Teazle), and Misses Jean McKenzie, D. Wilson, and Madge Lyon will represent in most picturesque attire Sir Peter Teazle, Sir Benjamin Backbite, and Crabtree. Many original and amusing dresses are being planned by other members, who are invited to wear fancy frocks if they would like to, so much fun and laughter is anticipated. Mrs and Miss Collins, wh,o have been staying with Lady McLean in Dunedin, have returned. Yesterday afternoon a very pleasant little tea was given by Mrs Williamson, “Brampton,” Grant road, as a farewell for Mrs Lo Seur, who leaves by the Corinthio next month for England. Pink and red rhododendrons made the pretty rooms still more attractive, and on the tea-table in the dining-room gold and brown nasturtiums end autumn-tinted leaves were used. Mrs Williamson wore a pretty gown of gold silk crepe with brown velvet, and Mb's Le Seur was in blue silk damask, and a small black hat with aigrette. Some of the guests were Mrs Matthews, Mrs Herbert Evans, Mrs Leitham, Mrs Dumhell, Mrs John O’Shea, Miss Peebles, Mrs Prichard, Mrs West, Miss West, Mrs Holdsworth, Mrs Cleland, Mrs B. Cleland, and Miss Collins. Madame Nordica and her concert party, on completion of the present tour, will proceed by the Dutcn mail steamer Houtman to Java,' leaving Sydney on November 13th. ' A progressive euchire party took glace last week in Messrs Gamble and reed’s Tea Rooms. The party, which was in aid of St. Joseph’s Orphanage, Upper Hutt, was most enjoyable and successful. The ladies’ first prize went to Miss Berry and the gentlemen’s to Mr Rigarlsford, consolation prizes to Mrs Fisk and Mrs Reynolds, Miss Graham and Mr Brown winning the ibooby prizes. Madame Genee will be the guest of honour at the Pioneer Club next Wednesday, when the members are giving an “at home” for her. Mr and Mrs Tom L. Mills, of Feilding, who are just now in Australia, are the guests of Mr and Mrs T. H. Souter, of Bondi. Acknowledgment is made by Mrs W. B. Fisher, Esquire of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of the following additional donations and subscriptions to the Bush Nursing Fund:—Mr R. T. Turnbull £o. Mrs J. Smitten £2 2s, Sir James Mills £2 2s, "J.A.” £1 Is, and Airs H. D. Bell £1 Is.
