SHEEP CENSUS

DECREASE OF 89,000 IN DOMINION

An interesting return showing the approximate number of sheep in the Dominion on April 30th, 1913. has been tabled in the House of Representatives. Following a.io the figures, showing the relative positions between the year just closed and the corresponding period:—

A perusal of tho above table shows that there have been increases of 6419 sheep in the Auckland district, 24.50-1 in the Napier-Gisborno area, and 188,843 in the Wellington-West Coast country, whereas decreases of 20,377 sheep in the Marlborough-Nelson-Wcstlaiid d istri'cts, 123,053 in the Canterbury-Kaikoura district, and 165,330 in Otago, are shown. The number of sheep iu the North Island has increased by 219,768. and tho decrease in the South Island is 308,708, thus making a net decrease for the Dominion of 89.002. A furtlier return of note is the census of sheep in tho Dominion for the past tea years.
