DISQUIETING DEVELOPMENT OUTBREAK IN PRINCE ALFRED HOSPITAL. many more oases reported. By Telegraph — Press Association —OopyrJffh* (Received July 15, 8.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 15. A disquieting small-pox development occurred to-day. It is announced that there are eight cases in the Prince Alfred Hospital. An old man, who was admitted on June 23rd suffering from pneumonia, died on June 28th. Prior to his death a rash appeared on his body. Every precaution was adapted, but, notwithstanding that, two patients, three nurses, two wardsmon, and a resident doctor have developed small-pox. It is of tho usual mild form. Stringent isolation has been enforced, and the hospital is absolutely dosed to visitors, excepting the most urgent cases. ...... Besides those in the hospital, thirteen other cases, from various suburbs, were reported to-day. The Victorian authorities are again rigorously insisting on passengers on the trains from New South Wales producing vaccination certificates. Many travellers are stranded in AlDr" Makgill, from New Zealand, vaccinated tho Moeraki’s passengers on Sunday. ... The doctor commences his inquiries immediately, but he declined to say anything regarding his mission to Australia.
DISCOVERY BY THE HEALTH AUTHORITIES. SYDNEY, July 16. The 'health authorities discovered late last night a family of five who were all suffering from small-pox, making a total of ten cases reported yesterday. TWO MORE CASES. THE RUSH FOR VACCINATION. (Received July 16, 0.80 a.nu) Sydney; July is. A case of small-pox has been diagnosed at Lithgow and another at Penriith. The rush for vaccination fell off today, though there are still largo numbers seeking treatment. The Union Company’s steamer Manapouri does not call at Sydney en route for Fiji owing to the amall-pox epidemic. ANXIETY IN ENGLAND. LONDON. July 14. A correspondent, writing to the “Pah Mall Gazette," asks what the Board of Trade and the Port of London Authority are doing to prevent smallpox being brought to England by mean* of incoming mails and produce.
