The “Pall Mall Gazette” urges the Midland Railway Company to negotiate with the Railway Men’s Union in regard to the oaSe of Richardson, dismissed for disobedience. Mr Williams, secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Men, states that the crisis on the Midland railroad is serious. An overwhelming lumber of the men demand that Richardson’s should bo made a test case. If there is a strike it must inevitably involve all the railways. Sectional meetings of railway men have decided to recommend executive action to secure the reinstatement of a guard named Richardson, who was dismissed for disobedience. Richardson elaimn that ho strictly obeyed the regulations relating to the load a certain engine should hard. He had refused to accept his superior’s verbal instruction. MINERS THREATEN TO STRIKE. LONDON, February 25. Three thousand miners at Skelmersdale, Lancashire, have given notice to strike unless non-unionists join the federation. • MINERS’ THREE-SHIFT SYSTEM. The Northumberland miners have asked the Miners’ Federation executive what support it was prepared to give in the event of their ballot favouring a strike against the, three-shifts system, which was the outcome of the Eight Hours’ Act.Mr Straker,. the secretary of the Miners’ Association, declares that_ a national strike is out of the question, as the association’s funds are depleted.
