Th© advent of the American-huilt automobile has provided an important item in the freight list of steamers from Montreal and New York. Steamers frequently come down to New Zealand with as many as thirty motor cars helow hatches, and there seems to be a general increase in the number being shipped from the United States and Canada each year. Over thirty machines were on board the steamer Star of Ireland, which arrived a few days ago from New York, and those consigned to Auckland have (says the “Star”) been piled four deep on the railway wharf at the ship’s side.
