A Sydney cablegram states that Mr Douglas Archibald is a passenger- by the Maloja, which arrives in Auckland on Friday next. Mr Archibald, who is, a distinguished meteorologist, and chief exponent in England of Professor Bruckner’s well-known theory of the thirty-five years’ weather cycle, is on his way to Rotorua.

The many friends of the Hon. John Bryce, one-time Native Minister, will learn with regret of his severe illness at his home at Wanganui, telegraphs our special correspondent. With advancing years Mr Bryce’s health has failed considerably. and he has not been able to rally from a sndden seizure of a few days ago. His recovery is regarded as hopeless.

■An appreciative letter has been sent by the Royal life Saving Society to Mr J. Calnan, Thomdon Baths, who saved the life of a bather at Thorndon Baths a few weeks ago. The society extended its hearty admiration aud appreciation of the timely aid, furnished by Mr Calnan, and further, has brought the matter under the notice of the Royal Humane Society.

Subsequent to the wedding a reception was held at the Oriental Hotel. Canon Hughes, of St. Peter’s Church, who performed the marriage, in proposing the toast of the bride and bridegroom, said the wedding was going to break down the insular prejudice of the English race, and it would tend ta> the blending of two nations. The Hon- W. Fraser is expected to return to Wellington from the East' Coast district by this morning’s main trunk train. He will represent the Government when the North Island Parliamentary party visit the Otago Central district at the end of next week. The Hon. W, H. Herries, according to latest advices, will arrive at Auckland to-day from Obinemnri, and the date of his return to Wellington is somewhat uncertain. The Hon. B. H. Bhodes is expected, to return to Wellington from Auckland on Thursday afternoon. The Hon. W. P. Massey is touring in the north. , The Hon. Dr Pomare is at Botorna. The Hons. H. D. Bell, A. L. Herdman, and F. M. B. Fisher are at Wellington.
