THE BASIN RESERVE

DIFFICULTIES OVER GROUNDS, CRICKETERS OUSTED BY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION. Some difficulty has arisen between the Cricket Association and the Athletic Association regarding the nse ot the Basin Reserve, and in consequence the Cricket Association will have to find other grounds on which to play

the matches under its jurisdiction om Saturday next.

At the meeting of the management committee of tho Cricket Association last evening, the chairman stated that they would remember that at the request of the reserves committee of thflf City Council the association met Mr McVilly, of tho Wellington Centre of the Athletic Association, with a view to arranging dates for the use of the Basin Reserve. The centre desired to get the ground on December 21st* which had been granted for tho New South Wales teachers’ representative match, and also February Ist and, 15th. The association agreed to tha latter dates, but the centre had gone to the council and got the ground for next Saturday and also on March Ist without the association’s approval. Tha matter had now gone so far that tha association could not protest to tha council,-for it would bo impossible ta interfere with the forthcoming athletiu fixture. The matches would have ta bo discontinued on the Basin Reserve next Saturday. He thought they should send a strong letter of protest to the counciL It was decided to write to tho conn.* cil,’ and to arrange for other grounds for the matches on Saturday,
