LORD BOBERTS'S SPEECH
PROVOKES PROTEST FROM LIBE-
ral Politicians,
LONDON, October 24,
A number of Liberal members of Parliament, including Sir Arthur Markham (Mansfield Division of Notts), Mr Noel Buxton (North Norfolk), Rev. Silvester Horne (Ipswich), Sir William Byles (North Division of Salford), Mr Philip Moorell (Burnley). Sir Albert Spioer (Hackney Central), and Mr ,T. A. M. Macdonald (Falkirk Burghs) have signed a protest against the speech made by Field-Marshal Lorwd Roberts, at a National Service League demonstration at Manchester, in which he declated that, as in 1860 and 1870, war might occur at any instant; that tinforces of Germany had superiority at every point, and that Great Britain had lost command of every sea except the North Sea, where her supremacy was disputed, and where Germany had always advanced. The protest expresses entire disbelief in Germany’s warlike intentions, and deplores the bitterness that sue. ments cause.
