A MODEL SUBURB.
WANTED FOR AUCKLAND. SIX HUNDRED ACRES OF NATIVE LAND. An Auckland deputation waited on the Prime Minister yesterday in regard to a proposal of the city council to acquire the Orakel Native Reserve, comprising about 500 acres, as a site for a model suburb The deputation consisted of Messrs R. T. Michaels and J. 0. Oleeson (members of the council), S. W. Wilson (town clerk), and A. M. Myers and J. D. Dickson, M.P.'s. The deputation asked the Government to assist in acquiring the reserve. It was the only large area available suitable for S model suburb. Ji n Order-in-Council had eon issued protecting the area from pri late speculators, and steps were now being taken In the Supreme Court to attack the ■vrder.
In reply tho Prim© Minister said legal difficulties were in the way of acquisition, hut these he did not wish to magnify. The question of taking native land compnlsor Jly had never been settled, and ho did not know how that fact would affect the proposal. He would consult with the Native Minister and the Grown Law officers, and without committing the Government he could promise them all the assistance possible.
