A BIG BLAZE.
TIMBER YARDS BURNED. ADJOINING PREMISES BADLY BURNED. By Telegraph—Frees Association—Copyright (Received July 30, 9.55 p.m.) MELBOURNE, July 30. A fire at Stone’s timber yard at Fitzroy, covering throe acres, destroyed timber and machinery to the value of £20.000. The town hall and a row of cottages across the street were badly damaged, the inmates escaping in their night attire. There were several narrow escapes. The police headquarters in the town hall, where a number of constables wore sleeping, caught fire and one man was rescued in an unconscious condition. Prisoners in the cells had a hot time, but were removed to safety.
