INQUIRY PENDING CONCILIATION COMMISSION TO VISIT THE SPOT. PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, July 25In connection with the trouble at Waihi a reporter was informed to-daj* that the three Conciliation Commission-eoi-6—Messrs J. R. Triggs (Canterbury). P. ‘Hally (Wellington), and Harle Giles (Auckland)—have been advised by the Labor Department to proceed to Maihi. It is understood that they Tall inquire fully into the dispute, and endeavour to effect a settlement. Mr Triggs loaves for Wellington to-night. FEDERATION'S APPEAL. AUSTRALIAN UNIONS ADVISED NOT TO ASSIST.
AUCKLAND. Julv 25. Tlie Auckland District Council of Trades and Labor discussed .a_ letter from the Sydney Labor Council asking whether it would advise the Australian unions to contribute to the Wailu strike muds. It was resolved to reply:—“This council cannot recommend the Australian unions to subscribe, because the trouble at Waihi is not a- labor dispute, but an attempt bv a. bodv which has the tenets of the I.W.W. as its objective to intimidate a body of workers which prefers to register under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act." FIFTY POUNDS TOTED. WAIHI DELEGATES ADDRESS BOOTMAKERS. AUCKLAND, July 25. Last night Messrs W. McLennan fvicepresident) and A. Yelland. of the 'Wailu Workers’ Union, addressed a large meeting of members of the Auckland Bootmakers’ Union. They received a sympathetic hearing, and the. union voted a sum of ,£SO to the strike funds. They also decided to open up a list for voluntary subscriptions instead of striking a levy, being under the impression that the latter course would be impracticable, for the union is registered under the Arbitration Act.
