ALLEGED ASSAULT AND ROBBERY.

Henrv Mcllroy, a strongly built young man, was charged at the Magistrate s Court yesterday with having assaulted James B loud ford, seventy-one years of age, and robbed him of about A 52 on July 6th. Sub-Inspector Sheehan prosecuted, and Mr Cecil Coulter apngcred for accused, who pleaded not guilty.; . Blandford stated that ho wae m the Cricketers’ Arms Hotel about 6 p.m. on July 6th. Suddenly he waa throttled by somebody, who abstracted £2 odd from one of his pockets. He waa pretty sober, but having bad eyesight, be could not identify hie assailant. Evidence waa given by the wife of the licensee of the Cricketers’ Arms that hearing a call for assistance* she went into the commercial room and found that aocneed had Blandford a hands pinioned behind his back. Detective-Sergeant Cassells, who arrested Mcllroy, said that accused denied having been in the hotel with Blandford. He made no reply when charged with the offence. Afterwards, accused asked what charge was madei against him and when told, he said. Oh, Well, it will do me good. It will get the beer out of me." ..... . .
