POINTERS’ TROUBLES
"WEST AUSTRALIAN” CASE SETTLED. PERTH. July 23.
The threatened strike of the "West Australian” newspaper companionship has been averted by an amicable settlement. Coy has been to a position on tho ‘‘West Australian.” Tho financial l‘#ues have been adjusted by an agreement between tho parties.
Tho trouble arose in connection with a •as© in which Mr Coy. late sub-overseer of the “West Australian" newspaper, was by a Supreme Court jury awarded £SOO damages »ntl costs against Messrs Spruhan, Bailey, wul Hand, members of the linotypo staff, for conspiracy to secure his dismissal. The solicitors for Coy (who had not been employed by tho pa,per for several months) icrved garnishee notices on tho proprietors of the “West Australian." attaching the wages of the three defendants for one week, totalling .£l9. Tho defendants were at once informed of tho fact, and thereupon tbev gave a week's notice. Subsequently the whole of tho linotypero and Boor hands gave similar notice.
