NATIVES AND LIQUOR
FONT ON LICENSEE FINED.
PRESS ASSOCIATION. PALMERSTON, July 22, Mr A. B. Thomson, S.M., delivered judgjnent in a case in which William J. White, of White’s Hotel, Poston, was sued ns a licensee for permitting the sale of liquor to a native. The sale was made by a barmaid to a tohunga, Hingawata Tnparoa, concerned in an alleged rape case, while White was absent from Foxton. The barmaid had already’ been fined £5 and costs on two charges, and the magistrate now held 'that tho licensee was legally responsible even though tho sale was made against his orders, and fined him £2 and costs in each of the two charges.
