SUBSIDISED CABLES
PAYMENT FOR AUSTRALIAN
SERVICE
MELBOURNE, July 20. In reply to a question in the Federal House of Representatives,. the Minister for External Affairs said the amounts paid by the Treasury in connection with the subsidised cable service were £1770 in 1910-11, and £1927 in 1911-12. No loss had been incurred in the payment of the subsidy,. because increased revenue had obtained on the. Pacific cable and land lines, while tho competition had . forced the other association to largely increase its cable service.
