CABINET DIFFERENCES

IN SOUTH AFRICA DEBATE ON THE HULD-SAUER INCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received May 23, midnight.) . CAPETOWN, May 23. A sensational debate took place in tho Union Assembly yesterday. Sir Thomas Smartt, leader of the Opposition, commented on the fact that the statements made by Mr Hull (who has resigned the portfolio of finance) and Mr Saner (Minister for Railways) were diametrically opposed, and asked General Botha (Prime Minister) which was true. General Botha regretted that Cabinet differences had been discussed in public. It was true the Cabinet ha< not been sufficiently consulted on railway matters.

General Hertzog said Ministers sympathised with Mr Hull, but it was not fair to blame Mr Sauer for difficulties arising out of the Hallway Board. Tho Assembly, by 66 votes to 39, refused to adjourn.
