THE DEATH OP PHYLLIS PEENCH. PEESS ASSOCIATION AUCKLAND, May 23. The inquiry concerning the death of Phyllis Adelaide French, which occurred on April 20th in a private hospital, was concluded this evening. A great deal of evidence was taken, and the jury retired at 9.20 p.m., and ten minutes later returned a verdict to the effect that death was due to septicaemia, the result of an illegal operation performed -by some person or persons unknown. Wilfred Clarke, a oomercial traveller, who bad represented himself as the busband of deceased when taking her to a Srlvate hospital, admitted in evidence that e was a married man with a wife in Cnristchurch. but denied that he had nr.? mlsed to marry deceased.
