MIRAMAR MATTERS

, MEETING OF COUNCIL. The usual meeting of the Miramar Borough Council was held last night/ There were present; Tho Mayor (Hr John Brodie), Councillors Richards, Telford, Stone and Bowie. A deputation from the newly-formed amateur athletic club of Seatoun waited upon tho council to ask that improvements bo otiected to the park. They ask- , ed that the ground be top-dressed, that water be laid on and that a dressing shed be erected. The Mayor in reply said that tho council recognised tho necessity tor iin proving the park and helping tho cricket and athletic clubs. At tbo same time they thought that the sports bodies, for whoso benefit the improvements would be made, should assist in a small way financially. The question of conveniences might be dealt with apart from the other matters, but he would ask them in the meantime to consider if they could make some small contribution. Mr Grigg, the leader of the deputation, pointed out that tho council, through tho tramways, would be greatly benefited by tho holding of athletic meetings. Tho deputation then withdrew. After discussion the council resolved to leave in tho hands of the engineer the question of effecting necessary improvements to the ground. St. Mary's Sunday school were granted tho use'of Seatoun Park on Labour Bay. /- letter from tho City Council advised that tho city would pay .£5 towards the cost of sis baud concerts to be given at Seatoun by the Tramways Baud. It was resolved that quotations be obtained for band concerts. A statement of receipts and expenditure for the half year ended September SOth, 1911, showed that the half year commenced with a bank balance of £703 ISs and closed with an overdraft of £565 12s 7d, the total receipts, including these sums, amounting to £6177 5s 4d. The corresponding period of 1910 opened with a cash balance of £1169 12s Id. and receipts, including this sum, amounted to .£5625 5s 2d. On September 30th, 1910, there was a cash balance at the bank of £2l 17s 4u. In 1910 a sum of £I4OO was paid to tho sinking fund commissioners, anil in 1911 there was a contribution of £IOOO to the Harbour Board, and an item of expenditure, Miramar avenue tramways, £6BB. Tree-planting in the 1910 half year cost £B7, in 1911 £236. The half-yearly loan statement showed the following expenditure under the various headings: Street improvement loan, £lO3 7s 9d; water supply loan, £9043 16s; drainage loan, £2381 2s. Tho drainage loan, was in credit by £2608 Bs, and tbe street improvement loan by £557 ; Ss Id, but there was a debit of £S3 Is on the water supply loan. Accounts were passed for payment as follow: District fund account, £324 15s; improvements loan account, £556 14s lid.
