Continental buyers have been on fine merinos. Yorkshire buyers operated largely in slipcs and greasy crossbreds. Compared with the July closing rates fine merinos were unchanged. Average sorts generally declined 3 per cent. Now Zealand scoureds were in strong request at unchanged prices. Medium scoureds declined 5 per cent, and inferior 4 per cent. Greasy crossbreds wero slightly firmer, fine to medium closing at a decline of 6 to 7} per cent., coarse par to 5 per cent, decline. The Commerce Division of the Department of Agriculture and Commerce has received tho following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, October 10th :—“Tho wool sales have closed with a fair demand for all qualities at present market value. Americans are not buying. Trade is good, and manufacturers are busy. Prospects are favourable at a reasonable price, prowled no further political complications nHsa on tho Continent. 'Nineteen thousand bales of New Zealand wool aro held over. Estimated values are as follow':—Superior 1 merino. Hid to Is Id.; medium merino, 91d to lid; inferior merino, 7Jd to 9d; line crossbreds (all grades), lid to Is' Id; medium crossbreds, 8d to 10)d; coarse crossbreds', 7d to lOd.” PRIVATE MESSAGES. Bank of New Zealand: —"Tho sales have closed firm for all kinds of wool. There is a good demand for coarse crossbreds. Tho total quantity held over is 20.000 bales, of which 18,000 aro Now Zealand. Prospects are fair." Dalgety and Company, Ltd.: —"Tho wool sales have closed, prices being fairly maintained as compared with the opening rates of the series. For merino wools (as compared with the closing rates of last series), super scoured was 5 to 71 per cent, lower; medium sorts, scoured, 71 to 10 per cent, lower; inferior scoured, 10 to 15 per cent, lower; good quality and con-' dition greasies, par to 5 per cent, lower; medium greasies, 5 to 71 per cent., lower; inferior greasy, 7J to' 10 per cent, lower. For crossbred wools, greasies, line quality, 71 to 10 per cent, lower; medium quality, 5 to 7J per cent, lower; coarse qualities, par to 5 per cent, lower; and for scoured crossbreds, 5 per cent. ’ lower. Sliped wools are 5 per cent, lower, and lambs' wool is unchanged. The nett quantity available for sale amounted to 138.000 bales, the disposals being as follows :—-Sold to America, 2000 bales; Homo consumption, 70,000 bales; Continent, 40.000 bales; carried forward to November series, 26,000 bales."

Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd.: —"The sales have closed with competition good. Compared with tho closing rates of last scries, coarse greasy crossbred shows no material change. Compared with the opening rates of the- present series, all other descriptions of wool, the market is weaker. Twenty-six thousand bales are hold over.”

Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.; —"During the series, 102,000 bales of wool were sold, of which 40,000 were taken for the Continent and 2000 for America; 26,000 bales wore held over. The sales closed fairly good. As compared with last sale’s closing rates, prices arc lower bj’ about 5 per cent, for greasy merino medium, and lower by about 10 per cent, for scoured merino inferior.”
