THE JUNIOR CADETS

NEW RIPI/B TO BE ISSUED.

INSTRUCTIONS PROM HEADQUARTERS.

Regarding the equipment of the junior oadots, it has been found on examination of tho records at headquarters that quite a number of units have not yet returned their .310 rifles and ammunition to store. In future, all junior. cadet target practices will be carried out on the 25-yard ranges with .22 rifles, or 10-yard ranges and B.S.A. air-rifles. Therefore, the ,310 rifles ana ammunition are not required, and must be returned forthwith. “This order was issued nearly twelve months ago in Cadet Order No. 24, and greater attention to cadet orders should be observed by all 0.50., otherwise delay, confusion, and a great deal of unnecessary correspondence will ensue," says the Commandant in a recent order. Owing to the adoption of the new pattern model rifle by tho junior cadets, O.sC. will in future, when tbo cadets are at the “slope," adopt the following method: See that the rifle is held fiat on the loft shoulder, position of magazine outwards from the body; hold the. butt with the left hand, tho first two joints or the fingers grasping tho outside of tho butt, the thumb about 1 inch from, tho toe, the upper part of the left arm close by the side, the lower part horizontal, heel of butt in lino with left thigh. Units which have not been supplied .with new model rifle will also adopt the above method, which will prevent the necessity of relearning how to come to the “slope" when cadets are transferred to the Territorial forces, where the .303 rifle is in use. “Conduct of Target Practice, 1911," has new been issued, also target registers, to all O.sC. where ranges have been established. Owing to the delay caused by the rearrangement of contracts, supply has been unavoidably delayed, but O.bO. must not allow this fact to in any way _ hurrj r them in their instructional practices; accuracy must not be sacrificed tor speed.
