THIRTY-NINTH ANNIVERSARY
COUBTEN'AY PLACE SUNDAY SCHOOL.
Yesterday the Courtenay pra-co Congregational school celebrated its, thirtysixth anniversary. Throughout the day special services were held and at each there were crowded congregations. Large collections were taken, the total amount exceeding that of last year. The singing of the scholars .was quite as good, if it did not surpass, that of previous years, revesting great credit on the training of Mr T. I'orsyth. ' _ At tho morning service the Ecv. J. Mr. Chapman took fpr liis subject, “The Child: Our Opportunity,” taking for his text the words, “Train up the child in the way he should go.” The address was a yerp practical one, the preacher bringing forth manv original ideas regarding the parental instruction of children. Airs Barton, of Glasgow, spoke in the afternoon on “The Eace of Life.” She urged her hearers to keep to the path of rightousness and not to waver when difficulties presented themselves. In the evening the Eev-. L. Macdonald Aspland preached on “The possibilities of Childhood,” his text being, “What manner of child shall this bet” Ho emphasised the responsibilities that lay upon parents and counselled them to attend to their offsprings' spiritual welfare from tho earliest days and not trust till they had attained Jears of discretion. To-morrow evening the annual tea and public meeting will be held, the various reports will be presented, and special songs and recitations will bo contributed by tho scholars.
