ISSUE OF WRIT. ELECTION TO TAKE PLACE ON AUGUST 17th. , PKEB3 ASSOCIATION, CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. The writ for the Christchurch. North election was received by tho returning lofficer this morning, but owing to itsjhaving been issued' in "Wellington the day before, the rolls closed yesterday. ,lt was understood that the rolls would [he open to-day, and a few people who intended to enrol to-day were disappointed in consequence. Tho election has been fixed for Thursday, August 17th, and if a second ballot is necessary it will be held a week later. Nominations close at noon on. Monday, August 7th. So far none have been received. , Three candidates,’ however, are definitely announced. They are: Mr J. D. Hall (Opposition), Alt L. M. Isitt (Independent), and Air L. B. Wilson ‘(Socialist). So far no Government candidate -is announced. LABOUR REPRESENTATION. PBEBS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. At a meeting of tho Labour Representation Committee to-night, Mr L. M. Isitt, a candidate for the Christchurch North scat, was present and briefly addressed tho meeting. Ho outlined his political platform, answered 'several questions, and was accorded a vote of thanks., After ho left tho committee discussed the question of contesting tho seat, and it was unanimously decided to take no action in connection with the by-election. This means that the members of the Labour party will have a free hand. Tho committee has decided to run a candidate for the seat on the City Council rendered vacant by the election of Councillor J. J. Dougall as Mayor.
