BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
IXOKIR AND BURNS TO MEET ON MONDAY.
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES. CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. Tho profits over the recent New Zealand boxing championship meeting at Invercargill will reach about £l5O. As tho result of this the New Zealand Council will probably decide to send a welter-weight to Brisbane to compete at the Australasian championship meeting, thus making a full complement of representatives from New Zealand. The cost, of sending a full team and manager to Brisbane will bo about £195. A. k-cokic and D. Burns, who meet at the King’s Theatre on Monday next. August. 7th, for the middle-weight proS'ess onnl championship, have met on two previous occasions, and tho result has been a wm tor each.
The contest on Monday will bo the first for the championship under the New Zealand CounciMaws. and the winner will be matched against the winner of tho SmithIreland match, which takes place at Waipawn on August sth. Tlu Christchurch Sports Club opened negotiations with "Clnat" Williams for a match with I*. Mayzc at Christchurch in October, but Williams evidently was not tlcsirrms of making the match, as he quibbled over some of the clauses in the articles. Tho club has approached OTlalloraii, who was runner-up in tho lightweight class at- the last Australasian championship meeting. f with tho view of match- ■.
