ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

YOUNG MAN STABS HIMSELF. About 10.50 o’clock last night a man named Patrick Hayden, a waggoner, thirty-three years of age, was seen to go into the doorway of a hairdresser’s shop -in Cuba street, where lie severely stabbed himseif in the stomach with a penknife. He then came out on to the footpath and fell down. Hayden wae assisted to h:s feet, and he staggered into Vivian street, where he collapsed. The injured man was carried to Dr Boxer’s premises. He was attended to by the doctor, and was then removed to the hospital. Hayden made a statement to the police admitting that the wound was self-inflicted. His condition was critical early this morning. Hayden stated that h© had been drinking heavily of late. He hag been separated from his wife, who resldS in Napier.
