KAMONA IN TROUBLE

PASSED BY WARRIMOO ON SUNDAY..

MAKING FOR SYDNEY- FOR REPAIRS.

On arrival of the Warrimoo at Wellington from Sydney yesterday morning the officers reported that at midday last Sunday, when the vessel was about 800 miles out from Sydney, the Union Company’s collier Kamona, 1425 tons, was met somewhat unexpectedly, and the latter vessel signalled that she was going to Sydney for repairs. The K.iprona, which was then four days eighteen hours out from Westport, was hound for Thursday Island with a cargo of coal for the Admiralty. According to Sydney files the Kamona was expected to cal I oft’ Cape Moreton, near Brisbane, last Monday to pick up a Torres Straits . pilot. No word has since been received of the Kamona. She is under command of Captain R. S. Walton, formerly chief officer of the Aorangi. No uneasiness is felt for the safety of the vessel, which, when tho Warrimoo passed her, was steaming slowly but not in need of any assistance. On the following morning the Warrimoo experienced, strong northwesterly winds and considerable following sea, which, being a head sea for the Kamona, would considerably retard her progress under the circumstances. The two steamers passed at a distance of about a quarter of a mile apart, and it was quite evident that the Kamona was able to get along without aid. The collier left Westport at 7.40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2oth.
