OBITUARY
AN EMINENT ARTIST.

The death is announced of Mr Edwin Austin Abbey, R.A. 1 The deceased artist was an American by birth, but obtained most of his reputation by his work in England, in. which country bo resided for many years. He was bom at Philadelphia in 1852. and at the ago of nineteen years was engaged hv the famous publishing firm of Harper Bros., in whoso interest bo wont to London in 1873. He oxhibit-2-d his first oil picture at tho Royal Academy, *‘A May Bay Morning," in 1890. tn 1903 lie was commissioned to paint the official picture of the Coronation of Edward VII. Among his other prominent works are decorative panels for tho Boston OJ.S.) Public Library (1895), and for the dome of the Pennsylvania State Capitol (1993), a reredos for the American Chnrca of the Holy Trinity, Paris (1903). and the paintings, “The Trial of Queen Katberne " 4 ‘The Crusaders” and "Columbus in the Now ’World." He was a member of many art societies in Europe and the United States
