A hundred thousand people aro without .shelter. it takes two hours to drive round tho devastated area. Thousands aro living in orchards and vineyards. Tho danger from cholera is alarming. Alany persons wero burned to death. Some took refuge in underground cisterns, whore rainwater had collected, but tho burning houses collapsed, and they were boiled alive. Arrests of suspected incendiaries continue.
