THE WOODVILLE CADETS.
EXTRAORDINARY SHOOTING RECORDS. In these days, when so much is heard of the necessity of good shooting in connection. with Defence, to look back upon Ae work of tho Woodviile District High School Cadets is wonderfully encouraging. In December, 1902, they again won the "Weekly Press" Challenge Shield. Their marksmanship was remarkable. One boy. Lieutenant Hind, made possibles at each range, and continued shooting at 100 yards until he had scored thirty-three successive bulls. At 200 yards Bugler Raploy scored a possible, and went on firing until ho had registered twenty successive .bulls. The aggregate’ of the whole team was , thirtythree ahead of that of 1008, and constituted a ■ record. Tho team kept the shield, and thoroughly well deserved it. Of course, however good tho marksmanship, muph must depend on the quality of the ammunition. The Woodvillo Cadets were especially well equipped in that regard. They fired .310 cartridges, marie by tho Colonial Ammunition Co., Ltd., throughout. , As the fame of these cartridges wap even then established beyond all cavil in New Zealand, it cannot be pretended that tho Woodviile boys took any unfair advantage; but there can be no doubt that tho quality of the ammunition used contributed to tho excellent result. The scores will ho more conclusive, as to the absolute superiority of the competing teams, when tho use of “C.A.C." Cartridges is entirely general. On that particular occasion at least, the Woodvillo boys won their laurels well. 20
