MASTERTON MYSTERY
YOUNG MAN DISAPPEARS RUMOURS OF A SERIOUS NATURE IN CIRCULATION. SPECIAL TO THE "TIMES.” AIAKTERTON, August 2. The police have not yet been able to ascertain tho whereabouts of James Kingdon, who has been missing from bis home since Alonday, July 24th. From information given to the police it would appear that Kingdon, in company with three other men, had been in Carterton on’ Alonday, July 241 li, and had returned in the evening iu a cab. One of tho occupants of the vehicle was put down at bis residence iu Kuripuni, and tho other throe, including Kingdon, were driven to tho hou-so of one of the men iu Dixon street.
His companions state that Kingdon got out of tho cab, and was last seen going along Dixon street in tho direction of his home, tho hour being between 11 and 12 o’clock.
AH sorts of rumours in regard to live missing man’s whereabouts are in circulation. It is alleged that tho men had had a dispute iu Carterton, and in their statements to tho police tho other two men say that though Kingdon was in a quarrelsome mood, ami had struck them, they did not retaliate.
The police have been investigating the matter, but without success. No official communication has been received by them as to a serious charge, mmours of which have been current for some days, arising out of tho disappearance of Kingdon.
