QUEEN’S STATUE
CONTRACTORS START WORK.
The contractors for the removal of the Queen's statue (Post Office square), which is to be placed in the Kent terrace reserve, commenced operations yesterday. A large temporary derrick was rigged and the statno itself was lifted, bodily off its pedestal and placed on a truck. The task was a very delicate one, £is great care had to be taken not to break anything. The Queen was suspended in mid-air for a considerable time, but at about 5 p.m., after nearly a day’s work, tile statue was safely deposited on the truck.
