• MONDAY. JULY 3L (Before Mr W. G. Riddell. S.M.) RECEIVING STOLEN GOODS. Charles So-arle, a. young man, pleaded guilty to Dae following charges:—(l) On or about July 3rd at Wellington he stole one caddie of Derby tobacco, valued at £5 15a, the property of W. and G. 'Turnbull and Go.; (2) on or about April 4th he received from Allen Loo one case of cocoa, valued at £7 iCs. well knowing it Vo have been dishonestly obtained; (i) on or about July 3rd ho received from Allen Lee one caddio of tobacco, valued at £5 15s. tho property of W. and G. Turnbull and Co. On tho application of Cliiof Dctoctivo Bro berg the first charge was withdrawn! and the accused was remanded for sentence till to-morrow. ‘ „ On the application of Mr A. Blair ban was Used at £SO. with two sureties of £25 each or one of £SO. ASSAULT. For haring assaulted Robert Russell George Cowan was fined 40s, or seven days’ imprisonment. BREACH OF PROHIBITION ORDER. John Chambers, who did not appear, was fined AOs. or fourteen days' imprisonment, for a breach of a prohibition order. , DRUNKENNESS. William Cotter was convicted of drunkenness and was fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. A TROUBLESOME INEBRIATE. Denis Long was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and for having caused damage to Government property to the extent of 6s 9d was fined 10s and ordered to pay the damage caused, in default fortyeight hours’ imprisonment. VAGRANCY. John White and Frederick Miller pleaded guilty to charges of being rogues ami vagabonds, and were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, on condition they left the town within twenty-four hours. INDECENCY. For having committed a grossly indecent act in a public place. John Green,’ for whom Mr P. J. O’Regau appeared, was fined 4Cs, with costs 7s, or seven days’ imprisonment. Seven days wore given in which to find the money. ■ MAINTENANCE CASES. Ernest George Schmoll was charged with being £7 in arresar in respect to a maintenance order. Defendant applied for a reduction of tho amount of tho order, which was for tho payment of £1 5s per week. Mr P. W. Jackson appeared for complainant and Mr H. F. O'Leary for defendant. After hearing evidence his Worship dismissed defendant’s application, and on. the information regarding diasobcdienco of the order he was granted an adjournment in order to give him an opportunity of paying off tho arrears. For disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears under which were £7 15s, George Stafford Styles was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. Edward Bovan was charged with failing to comply with throe maintenance orders, the arrears being £4, £2 ss, and £2 6s respectively. Complainant applied for custody of two children. Alter hearing evidence his "Worship convicted defendant, who was fined 20s on each charge, with coats amounting to £2 2s, default in each instance being fixed at seven, days’ imprisonment. Tho application for custody of the children was granted. Mr H. F. O'Leary appeared for complainant. CBaforo Dr, A. McArthur, S.M.) CLAIM FOR COMMISSION. William H. A. Cope for the sum of £825 of a section at Hataitai, the property of the defendant. Commission , was bloomed ait the rate o-f 5 per cent, on the first £2500 and 2i per cent, on the balance of the purchase money. Mr A. Blair appeared for plaintiffs and Mr J. J. McGrath for defendants. Judgment was reserved till August;Bth.
