WOOL BRANDS
Major Lusk (Auckland) moved— That the registration of wool brands for owners of flocks of 1000 and upwards be mad© compulsory. Tho consensus of opinion amongst the farming community, ho said, /was m favour of the remit because it had been found that where a brand of wool had been selling well unscrupulous men had adopted the brand. Such practices should be stopped at once. Mr Vavasour said if a brand was registered under the Trad© Marks Act nobody else could copy it. , . The president said lie understood that the Trad© Maries Act did not apply, although the name of a place could bo registered. Tho Minister was at present considering tho question of amending the Act. . , . Mr Talbot (South Canterbury) said registration should be optional, not compulsory. He moved, as an amendment— That the Government be asked to amend tho Trad© Marks Act so as to enable auy wool brand to bo registered. Mr Philip (Otago) seconded th© amendment, which was carried-
