Mr D. M. Philip (Otago) moved— That the conference be requested to take sic-os to have tho railway rates lor Parmer/ Union excursions placed on the f-Une scale as tnose ot friendly societies. Ho explained that other associated bodies had the i>nviiege asked _ for, and tho union should be treated likewise. Several delegates slated that everybody had privileges on the. railways except farmers. Tourists and commercial travellers were given enormous reductions. The former could travel throughout the railways in the North Island and use tho trains every day for a mouth tor JJi, while a farmer had to spend nearly as much as that lo travel from U einngton to Auckland and back. Others considered tho privilege should not be asked for. The remit was carried.
