ALLEGED FRAUD
CHARGE WITHDRAWN. SPECIAL TO THE “TIMES." CHRISTCHURCH, July 13. A mild surprise was created at the Police Court this morning when Stanley Farrington, a man respectably known from one end of the Dominion to the other, stepped into the dock on the information of George Burns Cromb, charged with intent to defraud by obtaining from Cromb £7 7s by means of falsely representing that be was the authorised agent of Sir Kenneth Douglas. Mr Cassidy, who appeared for accused, said the case had arisen out of some misunderstanding. Harrington had to collect money in connection with the Sheffield Choir programme, and Cromb had apparently thought he was not entitled to do so. As soon as the squabble had arisen the money had been paid back, and it was simply now a question of accounts. He therefore asked that the charge be withdrawn. Chief-Deteo-tive Bishop agreed to this. Hr Neave, who appeared for the , prosecutor, also agreed., provided the money had been refunded. Mr Cassidy gave this assurance, and the court agreed to the withdrawal of the charge.
