Charles Michaud, a peasant, lias been awarded tho sum of £I2OO os compensation for seventeen years’ penal servitude iu French Guiana, which he underwent on a charge of murdering a neighbouring farmer. Tho confession of another convict resulted in the release of Michaud, who is forty-six years old. His wir'd throughout believed him innocent. Ho received a tremendous ovation in the oourt. A declaration of Michaud’s innocence was placarded throughout the Ambusson district and inserted in the newspapers.
