EARTHQUAKE
SHOCKS IN HUNGARY TOWN SERIOUSLY DAMAGED. By Telegraph—Prose Association—Copyright. BUDAPEST. July 9. The earthquake at Kecskemet, fifty milos south-east of Budapest, caused tho station and barracks to collapse. The town hall, law courts, and theatre are seriously damaged. WOMEN MAD WITH FEAR, SEVERAL LIVES LOST. (Received July 11, 0.10 a.m.) VIENNA, July 10Thb earthquake shocks at Kecskemet lasted for twelve minutes, and the damage is estimated at £IOO,OOO. No building was left intact. Many persons wero injured by the collapsing walls. Several women went mad and had to be taken to tho asylum. A fissure opened outside the town and emitted hot mud and sulphur. A peasant and his nine children were killed. , Little damage was dene at Budapest, but there was a great panic. Thousands of people rushed into the streets in their night attire, and gazed up at the houses, expecting them to topple over. Many persons spent the night in the streets. The inmates of tho lunatic asylums became frenzied, and liad fearful struggles with the nurses. Many had to be put into strait waistcoats.
