FIRE IN CYCLE FACTORY.
A fire broke oat .on the premises of Mr Thomas H. Oa-tes, cycle manufacturer, 133. Willis street, at 4.£) pan. yesterday, and did a good deal of damage. One of th o boys employed at the ■works took a bicycle chain out of a bath of benzine and laid it on a hot store. There was immediately a big blaze, which ignited Inflammable material near by. The brigade was able to render good assistance, and prevented the fire from spreading, but stock and fittings were damaged. The building is owned by Mr Thomas Bush, and was insured in the Standard and Royal offices for £3OOO. Mr Oates’s stock was uninsured. Damage was also done to adjoining premises forming part of the same block of buildings—No. 129, occupied by Mr J. Walsh, tobacconist, whose stock, damaged by smoke and water, is insured for £125 in tbe Standard office; E. Metaxas* bootmaker’s shop, insured in the United office for £llO, was damaged by smoke; and tb© contents of Leo. Blake's clothier's shop, where the stock and fittings were slightly affected by smoke and water, are Insured in the Guardian office for £l9O,
