EECSUITB MEDICALLY EXAMINED. Tile organisation work in connection with tho new defence scheme was advanced am other stage last night, ■when the first batch of 150 recruits presented themselves for medical examination at tho Garrison ILill. The youths were all between the ases* of 14 and 18, and are to bo posted to senior cadet corps. The examinations wiU be continued throughout the month,_and this week about 750 will bo dealt with. Eolch area is dealt with separately, the youths examined last night hailing from 'Wellington South and Eoseneath. ■ In all some 6300 recruits ;in Wellington and suburbs, including tho Hutt, nave been registered, and in Wellington widita immediate suburbs there aro about 4000, and it is hoped to have ail of them examined by tho end of tho month. The mcaical officers will then deal with . tac lams from the Hutt, Petouc, and 1 onrua districts. . . , . . The examination last night was carried out very methodically. The recruits on arrival at me drill hall* were marsuallod into order by members of the permanent force. They were ordered to strip off! in tho non-comnusionod officers’ club-room, and there was a constant stream travel* ling into the medical officers’ room adjoining throughout the evening. An artilleryman stood at the measuring* board calling out tho height and cheat measurement, and another did the weighing. - Then the lads were thoroughly examined by tho medical men and the result entered up in the record books, which each recruit is provided with. Owing to the excellent arrangements, the examination was carried out without any waste of time. The following medical officers conduct the examinations Colonel Purdy, LieutenantColonel Begg, Captains * Elliott, Harty, Homes and Boss. Colonel Purdy woe not present last night, Lieutenant-Colonel Begg taking charge.
