TERRA NOVA’S MISSION

Ovorbmli ng operations having been completed, the Antarctic expedition ship Terra Nova will leave _ Lyttelton at 8 o’clock in Monday morning and. proceed up the coast to Capo Maria Van Diemen, where it is proposed to take surroundings as well as at Three Kings. Should weather be favourable it is expected that some voiy important nautical work will be carried out, although the amount (■J11200) allotted by the New Zealand Government does not allow a very comprehensive scheme to bo undertaken. Should time permit the Terra Nova will come south and proceed to the westward of Poveaux Straits, and also cruise round the .Solanders Islands. Her mission should prove of value to the maritime community who trade on these shores. Lient; H.‘L. L. Pennell. R.N., will be in charge of the undertaking, and Lients. IT. P. Eon-wick and Bruce, R.N.E., with tho present complement of men, will assist. The vessel is expected to be away about three mouths, and on her return the Terra Nova will be refitted for her journey to the Antarctic.
