CRUELTY TO A HORSE

SEVEN DAYS’ IMPRISONMENT, fEESS ASSOCIATION. .AUCKLAND, July 7. A shocking case of cruelty to animals was d.sciosed at the Police Court today, when a hawker named Harry Compton had to answer a charge ot having worked a horse while it was suffering trout a sore back. Inspector Aiaer, of tho Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, saw Compton with his horse and cart at the city market - this morning, and noticing blood oozing out from under the saddle on tho horse, inspected it. Just under the saddle was a hole of festering flesh large enough for a man’s closed hand to lie in. After viewing the animal Mr Cutton, S M., said that for such an inhuman offence defendant would Have to suffer. He would be sent to prison for seven days.
