CHARITABLE AID
MEETING OP COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Charitable Aid committee was held yesterday afternoon, Mr J. W. McEwau presiding. There were a.lso present Messrs D. McLaren, M.P-, Rev. W. A. Evans, and W. Galloway. Several applicants for relief were granted assistance. ' On© case was that of a man out of employment. Ho had been working for a glass-cutting firm, but one day, breaking some glass, he incurred the displeasure of the "boss.” The man then threw the job up, saying it was no good to him; he also thought the "sack” would follow. Being out of work for some time, ho was in need of assistance. The committee favourably considered the ihan’s application. Another applicant was a Salvationist (a .female), who been out of work for some time, following on. an illness. Belief was cra-nted, ‘ | Messrs .T, Staples and Co., Ltd., wrote,' intimating that, they would again donate forty tons of State coal to the committee for distribution during the winter months of this year.—On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr McLaren, the company arc to b© thank'd for their offer. The resignation of Mr H. Neal, infirmary attendant at Ohiro Home, was no oepted. Applications are to bs invited to fill the vacancy, th© salary to be .£7O a year, inth a .£lO rise at the end of the first year if found satisfactory.
