THE S.P.C.A.
A meeting of the S.P.C.A. was held last evening, Mr J. S. Jamieson presiding. The inspector reported that ho had ■visited the Theatre Royal when Barnold’s dogs were performing, and had failed to. find any traces of cruelty to the animals. Sratemcnfcs made iu anonymous letters that the society' had received, to the etleot that the dogs wore badly treated, were absolutely untrue. In the inspector's report mention was made of alleged cruelty to horses drawing coal carts and, other vehicles. A little discussion , ensued on tho matter, after which Mr Hott moved: “That in consequence of the repeated reports that have been made to us, we ask the Citv Council, the State Coal Company, and tho Gas Company to assist tho work of the society by inserting a clause in all future contracts, making it a condition that horses used in connection with the contracts shall be fully fit for the work.” This-was seconded and carried.
