PjJESS association. AUCKLAND, May 22. The Supreme Court criminal sessions opened to-day. Mr Justice Chapman in his’charge to the grand jury referred to the large number of cases,, twenty-fire bills being presented. He said no,doubt the larger proportion of the criminal cases in Auckland, compared with tlie other centres, was due to the greater population. He commented favourably on the absence of sexual cases, ■ Prank Stokes, alias Tozcr, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment and three years reformatory treatment. Hapo Tanara, alias King, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to two, years’ imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal.
