William Stanley Wesley, a young man and a steward by occupation, w.bu arrived in the Dominion from England about two months ago, was charged with having, on May 18th at Wellington, forged tiie name of George Walker to a Wellington Post Office Savings Bank withdrawal reeeiyit anil with having uttered it to Wimhley Phillips. A STREET FIGHT. Michael Lynch and Joseph Wadley wore charged with having used threatening behaviour in Cusomhouso qu«J. Lynch pleaded guilty, and Wadley guilty "under great provocation. BREACHES OF PROHIBITION ORDERS. Thomas Chalmers Leslie McGregor admitted drunkenness, but domed two charges of having committed a breach of a prohibition order. * He was convicted and, discharged for the first offence, for the second committed to Eotoroa Inebriates’ Home for one year, and for the third offence convicted .and ’discharged. , . , , Christina McGregor denied having committed a breach of a prohibition order. She was convicted and hned 20s, wjth costs 7s, or seven days’ imprisonment. INDECENCY. Peter Middlemoro pleaded guilty to drunkenness and to having committed a crossly indecent act in Courtenay place. For the first offence he was convicted and discharged, and for the second sentenced to one month's imprisonment. MAINTENANCE. Michael Aylward. who did not appear, was ordered to contribute 15s per week towards the support of his wife. John McKelvey was ordered to pay 8s per week, and Samuel McKelvey 6s per week towards the support of their brother, Thomas McKelvey. Each defendant waa ordered to pay 10s Gd costs. Mr P. W. Jackson appeared for the applicantDISPUTED PARENTAGE. Harold Enoch Spencer was charged with having disobeyed a maintenance order, the arrears under which amounted to J 313 3s lid. Defendant applied for cancellation of the order, which was for the payment of 6s per week in respect to the maintenance of a child. The order, it appeared, was made about four years ago, and defendant then consented to it. Ho now stated that he was not the father of the child, but that it had been left on his hands by a woman who had adopted it. He did not know the whereabouts of the child’s parents, and was not acquainted with its mother. Sub-Inspector Sheehan prosecuted, and Mr E. G. Dunn appeared for defendant. Evidence was called at length respecting the probable parentage of the child, and the manner in which Spencer came to have' it under his care. His Worship said he was not satisfied os to the identity of the child, and the matter would bo adjourned till June sth in order to admit of further evidence being adduced.
