TWO BIG PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS, During his northern trip, the Hon. G. Fcwlds, Minister in charge of Hospitals, and,, acting-Alinister, of Justice, risited the site of the proposed central mental hospital and the adjoining prison reformatory farm at ,Tokamn.‘ Ho states that some tempoTary buildings axe going up on tho farm and .irill.be occupied within a month by twenty prisoners, who will carry opt tnc preliminary.work of road-making and preparing material for the permanent buildings. ,He also fixed tho location of the first buildings for the mental hospital. Tfaces will ba situated about one and a quarter miles from To Puhi railway station, and tenders for their construction will be called , without delay. Plans and specifications are also' being prepared as quickly as possible for a separate building for refractory • patients at Auckland mental hospital. ‘‘When we get these two completed," added Mr Powlds, ‘‘it will relieve the ■ pressure which now csists in our institutions.",
