MAN OVERBOARD
An exciting incident occurred # alongside the Government steamer Hinemoa at the wool wharf at about half past twelve o'clock yesterday morning. # Mr Barney Willans, third officer, was climbing up the gangway when he overbalanced, and fell into the harbour. There was some sea at the time which caused tho vessel to surge in and out from the wharf. The alarm was promptly given. The chief steward lowered a lead lino which Mr W Ilians caught hold of. The harbour nightwatchmen and members of the crew hauled the officer out of tho water-'by a rope which was passed to him by a member of the crew named Brooks. Beyond a chilling ducking ilr Willans was none the worse for his mishap.
