COMPLIMENTARY BENEFIT
A largely attended meeting was held in the Mayor’s room. Council Chambers, last evening of those interested in tendering a complimentary benefit concert to Mr Ernest Parkes, on tho eve of his departure for England to further his musical studies. The Mayor and Mr J. P. Luke, M.P., apologised for their absence, but promised cordial co-operation in the movement. Mr -B. J. Hill was voted to the chair.. It was decided to hold a conceit on a date to. be fixed, in the Town Hall, and a strong and influential committee was formed. Mr W. Eraser' (of Stafford and Treadwell! was - oppointed treasurer, and Mr J. Dykes secretary. Those present gave their hearty support to the proposal, the speakers readily recognising the services Mr Parkes has so freely given on various occasions to musical endeavour.
