JOURNALISTS’ DINNER
MR J. BARB ENTIERTAUNHD. The Wellington branch of tho New Zealand Institute of Journalists entertained Mr J. Barr, fiormerly of Wellington, and now on the literary staff of the Sydney ‘‘Bulletin/'* at dinner at the Hotel VVindsor on Saturday night. The chairman of the branch, Mr F. Earle, presided. Amongst tho visiting journalists present were Mr Corbett, of the "Sydney Daily Telegraph,” Mr A. Burns, ehiei eub-editor of the Christchurch "Press,” Air T. Mills, editor of the 'Tedding Stan,” and Mr Smith, of the "Oamaru MaiL” * In response to the toast of "Dux Guest,” proposed by the chairman, Mr Barr, who is president of the New South Wales Journalists'' Institute, spoke of tho movement amongst journalists In Australia to secure better conditions. “Thb N.Z.LJ,” was proposed by Mr Corbett, response being made by Mr J. GreaUsh, vice-president. Mr C. Eaxle proposed "The Visitors,” which was replied to by Messrs Barr, Bums, Corbett, Mills and Smith During tho evening songs were contributed by Messrs E, Schwabe, H. Plimrner, H. V. Drew, and C. J. McKinnon. A pianoforte solo was played by Mr 1levy, who also played the accompaniments.
