A CHAMPION CHAMPION
NEW SWIMMING'RECCED. PEEB3 ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, December 23. At the Waitemata Swimming Club's sports this evening, M. E. Champion reduced the New Zealand record for 100 yards from 6*l l-ssec to 61sec. The official Now Zealand record is 65seo (not 61 l-ssec), but this has been frequently broken by Champion, Healy, Roberts and Frey berg, though their performances have not received official recognition. At Napier last year Roberts covered covered IOU yards in 64sec, and an application was made by the Napier Club, at whose gala the swim took place, to have the time recognised. Tho application was referred, back to the club by the New Zealand Council with a request for further details, but since that time nothing has been heard of the matter. It is worthy of note that in the Wellington Provincial championship lost year Freyberg won the 100 yards in 64scc —the same as that now credited to Auckland's top-noteher.
