TRAINING AT ELLERSLIE

PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, December 23. Very little fast work was registered at Ellerslie this morning. All the gallops took place on tho sand track, which was a trifle slow. Sharpshooter did five furlongs in Imin llicc, Gipsy Belle and Lady Medallist going separately six furlongs, each taking Imin 22 l-ssec. Diabolo was three lengths letter than Tauira over seven furlongs, run in Imin 35sec. Kopu was an absentee. John worked on the hills, and afterwards did. walking exercize at Ellerslie. His cold ia improving. Bridge is now a strong favourite. Special trains have been arranged in connection with tho Manawatu summer meeting, which will bo continued on Monday and Tuesday. Excursion faros will be charged. A list of the principal prices at the yearling horse sales in Buenos Aires last September may serve to give some idea ot the huge money paid for yearlings, and prove that Argentines pay no consideration to price when tiey have an object to attain. Six colts by Jardy realised £15,044,. averaging £2507 each. -Fourteen fillies by tho same sire totalled £17.035. Of his progeny one colt sold for £3982, and another for £3274, and a filly by liim for £2832. Twelve colts by Pietermaritzburg realised £20.000. at an average of approximately £1660. one of them, fetching £3982. In one. lot forty-four products were put up for auction, bringing the gross srim of £41,602, which works out at an average of £945 each, and in another lot of thirty-three the youngsters secured tho handsome average of £1239 per head, the total sum received being £40,885. This gives a* grand total of £82,487 for seventy-seven yearlings, or anaverage of £lO7l.
